Run, jump, leap, and throw. Track season is here and everyone is excited for the season. Holt Track is leading off with a second place in the Fort Zumwalt West Jaguar Invitational scoring 85 points on Friday, March 24, 2017.  Many think that runners are nuts saying stuff like “why would someone one willingly run?” or “ewww running”.

However, track athletes have many reasons to choose their sport. “It would keep me in shape for soccer, and build my endurance. I heard it was the social event of the year, something fun to do,” said Clayton Waple (’19) who ran the varsity 4 x 800 and the varsity mile.

Waple also said, “My goal for the season is a sub five mile and to help my 4 x 8 team win as many races as they can”.

Also, students choose the sport for other reasons, like building camaraderie. “I wanted to get in shape, hangout with friends, compete,” said Matthew Hatton (’19),  who ran the 100 the 4 x 100 and the 4 x 200. “I would like to get varsity and make new friends”.

Let us hope for great things from Holt’s runners, and wish them best of luck in their meets in the future.
