Sharing one of his own articles, Schaeffer is humble about his celebrity status.

You may of seen a new face in the hallways. Brendan Schafer has recently taken on some of the hall monitor duties here at Holt. He spends his times monitoring the halls and running passes for students.

Although he loves it here, this is only a part time job for Brendan to help him make extra cash. Brendan Schafer is a writer, podcaster and a lover of sports. His main goal is to be an influential voice in sports media. He currently covers the Cardinals and Blues for KMOV. He also likes keeping his Twitter followers up to date with the latest news on the Mizzou Tigers. On his Twitter he likes to talk with other fans about what is going on around the league and their opinions on things.

Out of everything he covers, baseball has always been very special to him. He told me one day that he loves the game of baseball more than any other sport and he would love to one day be the Cardinals beat writer. “The hardest part of the job is breaking in. It’s very hard getting your foot in the door and getting well known for what you do.” Brendan is doing a pretty good job of being well known.

He is verified on twitter with thousands of followers. He is on a good track to where he wants to be. He said the best part of the job is feeling like his work and opinions are valued by the people who consume it. Brendan gets to go to a lot of games so he can cover what’s going on. His best baseball experience was when Aledmys Diaz hit a grand slam after the death of his close friend Jose Fernandez.

Brendan also covered the Blues and Blackhawks game 7 in 2016. He said he wanted to be a writer because he always had an interest in sports and good at writing and he was good in front of people. He was involved in a lot of the plays and was good at speaking in front of lots of people.

When I asked him what helped him progress in his career he said Mizzou had a huge impact on him. He said the opportunities at Mizzou put him in position through experiences and relationships to progress more rapidly in his field than he could’ve hoped for.

Brendan has had a lot of inspirations in his life. He looks up to Ben Frederickson on the writing side of things. He likes how Frederickson reports on news and keeps his followers up to date on the Cardinals and MLB news. He also enjoys listening to Martin Kilcoyne. Brendan enjoys listening to him and loves the topics he talks about on the radio. Brendan is looking forward to the Cardinals upcoming season and predicts they win the first wild card spot.
