Microsoft’s latest iteration of their desktop operating system, Windows, is, after two long years, finally been permitted to run on Wentzville School District computers and laptops, including those in use at Holt.
The new version of Windows is aptly named Windows 11, and it brings a lot of new features that can help with everyday work and productivity. First, though, this is what some staff and students have to say about this new change.
According to Microsoft, there are several new features to “inspire your creativity and speed up the tasks you do every day. and make them easier to accomplish.”
For example, in the Photos app, there is an enhanced search feature, as well as the ability to do light photo editing, by doing things such as blurring backgrounds.
A few other features include Copilot, which is an AI search, Cocreator in Microsoft Paint, which can generate AI images to “jumpstart your illustration,” the ability to create passkeys on any website or app, which enables you to use Windows Hello, which is just a PIN, face, or fingerprint (depending on the device), to autofill passwords, and the ability to select text from a screenshot, similar to Google Lens.
Overall, it seems like it will take a while for the new Windows version to be fully adopted, but it seems promising.
