On Oct. 24, Holt hosted its annual Pink Night game against Timberland. Funds from tickets and donations went towards families impacted by cancer to help them with medications, transportation and other needs. Last year, the event raised approximately two thousand dollars for Timberland alumna Leah Wilmsmeyer who was diagnosed with breast cancer. This year, money was raised for the Siteman Patient Care Fund.
“The event was started in 2010 as a way for Holt and Timberland to combine their efforts to raise money for breast cancer research,” History Teacher Erin Chase said.
The game also featured a raffle for a basket of lottery tickets and all proceeds from the raffle were added to the donation total.
Varsity Head Coach Liam Collins called Pink Night an opportunity to raise awareness for charity.
“I think the benefit of Pink Nights raising awareness for a great cause even if we don’t raise a
ton of money,” Collins said. “Just the fact that we do it can highlight a cause.”
The game was also a great experience for the players, allowing them to play with an additional goal.
“It’s a rivalry game against Timberland so it’s got a big atmosphere to it, ”Forward Trenton Garofalo (‘24) said, “and playing for breast care awareness is an experience (as well as) playing in the back (field) too.”
The players wore special uniforms with pink numbers as Collins cheered them on to a 2-1 victory against Timberland.
“The game was hard and tough, but fair,”Collins said. “We all know someone who has battled cancer, so for our program to give back to those in need is great.”
