It’s late at night, 10:30 PM ET. Everyone in Orlando, FL is most likely asleep. What is the Holt Dance Team doing? They are in their hotel room, watching their dances from the day. Critiquing them. Going over every minute detail, because they were taking it so seriously. This is happening because the Holt Dance Team attended Universal Dance Association (UDA) Nationals at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL. They also competed in the Division 4 State Championship, winning the title for the first time in Holt’s history.
This is only possible through the motivation and teamwork these dancers have.
“I think we have a very close bond, and we have a lot of very positive girls on our team, which helps us get through the year,” Sydney Tucker (‘25) said.
This is definitely true, given that the team were State Champion for Division 3 Hip Hop, 3rd place in Division 3 Pom, and 2nd Place Overall in Division 3, as well as a State Champion Runner-up. This is definitely true, as reinforced by Ava Ruble (‘24).
“We really bonded this year, which has really helped us get
our dances cleaner because we all listen to each other,” Ruble said. “We got second and third at nationals, which was really exciting, and that’s the highest we’ve placed, ever.” The Holt Dance Team has a motto that helps with their performance as well. “We have this motto (that says) we define our win,” Skylar Sundberg (‘24) said. “No matter what (happens), we define our win.”
