Among the seven seniors on the boys Varsity tennis team, Head Coach Stephen Alter has coached five of them since the first time they ever picked up a racket.
The group rewarded Alter with a win over Timberland to start the season, and the hard work only increased from there to create a memorable season for Alter’s first group of seniors.
“The thing I will miss most about the seniors is the special bond that formed from freshman year until the end of their tennis career,” Alter said, “It is not too often that a group of freshmen comes in who from the start put in the time and effort and visualize success while all having common goals for themselves and the team.”
Although Assistant Coach Bobbi Ferrell did not start with this group of seniors, she still finds them special.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of this family and this team,” Ferrell said. “On good days and bad, everyone encourage one another, cheer each other on, and celebrate together. Everyone has matured beyond athleticism. We’ve seen growth in humility, self-control and self-confidence.”
Two sets of brothers are on the team: the Evans brothers and the Madden brothers. Mabry Madden (‘24) has been on the team since freshman year, and the sibling rivalry hasn’t faded between him and his brother Parker Madden (‘26).
“Despite all of the brotherly love, I still find ways to get mad at Parker while on the court,” Mabry said. “I still appreciate being on the same team with my brother anyways.”
“It was really fun to play with him one last time before he goes off to college ,” Parker said.
Kaden Evans (‘24) joined the team when Mabry did, with both Parker and Jace Evans (’26) following in their brothers’ footsteps and joining freshman year.
“It’s’ fun to play on a team with my brother because we know how the other one works,” Jace said. “Being able to play with him before he graduates was super cool.”
“It was super fun to be able to catch my younger brother in another sport,” Kaden said. “I truly hope I have prepared him to do well on his own next year.
Congratulations to the Team for placing first in the D
istrict, and to Jack and Mabry for placing first in Individual Districts and going to State!
