Holt High School. A place of all people and all styles, with over 1,000 students. Fashion is a way everyone of all ages and groups can have fun. Different creative styles can express who people are feeling and who they are as a person. Nov. 6, 2024, 4 Holt students give breakdowns and details of their outfits of the day, while giving their fashion tips and advice.
Rylie Tucker (‘27) described her style as “baggy”. She feels most tied to the genre Alt or sometimes even Grunge. One of her fashions do’s are colored tights. Tucker believes that tights add to any dressed up outfit and she really likes red in specific.
”I got this shirt from Shein, I got these jeans from H&M on my birthday, and then I got these Converse from my mom because the others broke down,” Tucker said. “I also drew spider webs on them. Then I got this necklace from Earthbound.”
While some students enjoy high end department stores, other students like Gentry Adams (‘26) go to thrift stores. Adams expresses that she tries to get out into the fashion world.
Although she feels she can work on being more elaborate and confident with the way she dresses. For the future she hopes to upgrade to earthy and overall more excessive. One thing she relies on is sustainability and getting your clothes ethically. To get things the easy way while helping others and the world. Right now she would say her style is “laid back”.
“Currently I’m wearing a converse that I got at Mary Martha’s Thrift Store. These jeans I got from Goodwill, my entire outfit is thrifted,” Adams said. “This hoodie I also got from a garage sale and this necklace I got from my boyfriend.”
Even if it’s not your best outfit it’s important to show who you are to the world through fashion. If Nia Nevins (‘27) could give advice to anyone that doesn’t feel like style is that important she would say that it’s super important to everyday life. It shows individuality and uniqueness within every person. Nevins feels most tied to the styles Y2k, Indie, Grunge and sometimes even Coquette. Her style generally stays the same often but, she would like to explore other genres more. If she could explain her outfit in simple terms she would say trendy, but Y2k.
“I have on these low rise, baggy jeans. I also have this black bag, which is vintage and I have this off the shoulder white shirt from Brandy Melville,” Nevins said. ‘Then I have black platformed converse and this black necklace my dad got me from the islands.”
Sometimes we feel as if the world is judging us by what we are wearing. But there are people who are here to teach us that it doesn’t matter, wear and be who you are. Xavier Hankins (‘27) loves adding layers and believes that jewelry should be added but not to everything. If he could give advice Hankins would say that to not care what other people think. Be confident in what you wear.
“The shirt I’m wearing are from my dad and my jorts are from Zumiez, in Mid Rivers. All of my bracelets are thrifted or gifted to me.” If he could describe his style he would say “Like a 20 year old grandfather. It doesn’t make sense but, the girls that get it get it.” And I totally get It. Fashion is all about being yourself and letting your inner personality blossom. But the most important tip is, “Do not care what other people think,” “If you see something you wanna wear, please do.” said Xavier Hankins (‘28).
