And we’re back! Sorry for the ridiculous hiatus on this series… Whoopsie… But don’t fret! I’m back with three more must see movies of the past two months, my letterboxd is full! I’m on the film grind once again!
In this edition, we’re going to be taking it back all the way through January and February, So without further ado… Time for Jadyn’s monthly movies series part two, electric boogaloo.
First film I’d like to touch on was actually a rewatch. I’ve watched this film countless times and it’s one I will literally never shut up (or, chut up) about when given the chance to talk about. And that film is 2001’s Donnie Darko. The movie stars a young Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled teenage boy who dodges a freak accident, only to begin getting visits from a man in a bunny suit who tells him he has 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds to save the world, and then convinces him to commit various crimes. Of course the plot is much more convoluted and complex than just that, and it took my first few watches to truly grasp what was going on. It’s one of the most iconic and unforgettable films of our time, also boasting a killer soundtrack that features Echo and the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears, INXS, and Oingo Boingo. Killer movie that will leave you thinking, and one of my top five favorites of all time. 5/5.
The next was a franchise I surprisingly haven’t gotten much into, and that series is another early 2000s masterpiece: Final Destination. Considering how much I love the Saw and Hostel movies, it’s seriously shocking I’ve never seen even a single one of the Final Destination films, but here we are. If you already didn’t know, it follows a group of high school students who survive a potential plane crash thanks to one of their classmates horrifying premonitions of what was to come. But they don’t get off the hook so easy, as the villain of this franchise is death itself. And death comes after the group to pick them off one by one, in the order they would have died in the crash. It was a fantastic movie, if you also somehow haven’t seen it like me, I would recommend 100%.

Next I’d like to bring some attention to one of the strangest movies I’ve ever seen. Which is Martin Scorsese’s After Hours. As a strange/uncomfortable/uncanny movie frequenter, this was up there with some of the oddest movies i’ve ever seen. It follows a man named Paul who meets a girl late at night in a coffee shop, later that night he calls her and goes downtown to her loft, and the night gets progressively stranger as it goes on. The date essentially going wrong, and Paul spends the rest of the film trying to get back uptown to his apartment.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you found at least one film that peaked your interest.
