What is LitFest?

This year, our Holt Contemporary Literature classes, along with Mrs. George, are going to be putting on a two day celebration on December 1 and 2 dedicated to writing of all kinds. Students, teachers and even famous authors, songwriters, journalists and photographers are invited to take the stage in our very own C.H. Jones auditorium.

They are accepting all forms of literature, whether it be a personal narrative or original PG- rated poetry, fiction, or song. There will even be a bad poetry contest, for the students and faculty that don’t think that they are good writers, or who want to have fun writing the most clichéd and melodramatic or over-written poems possible.

The two class periods have been working diligently to make LitFest the best it can be in hopes of extending the celebration to be more than two days in the future. They have already had authors, memoirists, journalists and photographers agree to appear for the two day literary celebration.

For those students that enjoy suspenseful novels that keep you on the edge of your chair, don’t worry, LitFest will have just the author. Braxton DeGarmo, the author of Rescued and Remembered and The Looks That Deceive. If you like heartwarming books, best selling author Piper Punches will be taking the stage on Friday, December 2nd. On the same day, Gateway award winning Brian Katcher will be answering any questions you have but he will also have his books for sale, so don’t forget your money!

Not only will there be authors, there will be famous memorists that will tell their stories about the hardships they have faced. Keith Hoerner will be here at Holt on December 1 and will be speaking about his memoir Missing the Mark: A Target Child Speaks.

For the students that enjoy journalism and photography, Holt’s LitFest will have three perfect people to talk to. Kameel Stanley and Tim Floyd, two hosts from the St. Louis podcast: ”We Live Here”, will be on the stage December 2. Lindy Drew, a HOSTL (Humans of St. Louis) photographer and interviewer will also take the stage on December 2 and will answer questions about both photography and interviewing.

Mrs. George and her Contemporary Literature classes are trying to make this the best 2-day festival ever, so we need faculty and students to sign up! We need novelists, poets, and songwriters to take part! You can sign up on the google classroom, by using the class code rr0pfv.
