Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them Movie Review
I have loved the magical world of Harry Potter for a while now and the characters have helped me escape the problems I have faced in real life. So I can honestly say I was sceptical of adding anything else. In my mind I had the perfect alternate universe and that did not need to be ruined by adding useless things just for people to make more money. If you read my book review on The Cursed Child you know I was not happy with the book and wary of yet another addition to the franchise. However, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was different.
I left the theater feeling giddy and impressed. I quickly re-fell in love with the already amazing wizarding world and immediately wanted to see the movie again. I had never felt the need to imagine what wizards where like in America because I was completely satisfied with what I already had, and J.K Rowling chose to keep this movie completely separate from the original Harry Potter books and movies so I did not think it would have the same impact on me.
Even though there could be confusing parts I never once was disappointed. While watching this movie, the audience experiences laughs and may even be brought to tears between hilarious beasts and tragic real life situations that still plague us today. Even though viewers are meant to sit back and relax while watching this fantasy movie it shows the best and worst in people.
The fresh faces of the actors help make New York the perfect setting for this new movie. Protagonist Newt Scamander has brought a suitcase full of magical creatures into the city. He claims his beasts are not dangerous but other characters seem to being using his escaped pets as a scapegoat to the real problem terrorising The Big Apple. Newt is joined on his adventure by a No-Maj (or muggle), a disgraced dark wizard hunter, and her sister who seems off in her own world. The story explores the background of the textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander, which Harry Potter is eventually required to buy for his studies.
Even for someone who has not read the original series or even watched the movies should experience this eye-popping and imagination stirring spin-off. For the die hard fans like me, I hope you enjoy revisiting this iconic world as much as I did.
