Down goes ‘Bama.
Wow. The previously undefeated, undisputed top ranked team in the nation Crimson Tide have lost in the National Championship game. What a game it was.
This game will go down as one of the, if not the best college football national championship game to ever be played. Deshaun Watson tore apart the country’s best defense in the title game for the second straight year, and this time his efforts were enough to pull off the upset.
Down 31-28 with just six seconds left in the game, Watson rolled out right and found wide receiver Hunter Renfrow wide open in the endzone for a touchdown. There was just one second left on the clock. On the ensuing kickoff, Clemson performed an onside kick to prevent some kind of hook and ladder kickoff return. They recovered, sealing the victory.
Despite being the second ranked college football team in America, few gave Clemson much of a hope, making the win all the more impressive.
Is this the end of the Alabama college football dynasty? Probably not, as they have the top ranked recruiting class coming in next season. Does it impact the future of college football, by showing that even the strongest of the strong can be knocked off? It absolutely does.
