12 Angry Jurors
Holt’s Spring Production
Holt High School’s spring play “12 Angry Jurors” follows the arguments of a jury to a murder trial. Opening night was Thursday, March 2nd, and it was phenomenal! All 12 of the jurors were personable, memorable, and individual. The cast was incredible, and the crew who made all of it happen were as well.
The play is set in July of 1965 New York, as a jury argues over the case of a son supposedly killing his father. The jury has to decide whether or not the son is guilty. The continuous back and forth, proving and disproving the evidence and statements given, keeps the audience engaged at all times.
“12 Angry Jurors” was simple yet riveting. What made the play so interesting, however, were the actors themselves. Each one brought such a lively character to the performance and they were all easily distinguishable. There was comedy, suspense and feeling.
The audience was a bit smaller than the normal amount. Mr. Bagnall decided to do something that has not been on Holt’s stage for many years: put the audience with the actors. Eighty seats were set on the stage, just five feet away from the performance. While the seats were limited in number, sitting on the stage really felt intimidating and intense. The audience was really put into the emotion of the play.
During a performance, the actors may find it difficult or especially fun to continue.
“[The play] wasn’t difficult, and the funniest moment was some girl in the audience started laughing during the scene where I held the knife in Leo’s face,” said Isaac Martin (’19).
