Robotics Rock It
Students from Holt, Liberty, and Timberland formed a tri-school robotics team. The Holt students include, Jordan Sanzottera (‘18),Tyler Sanzottera(‘18), Ruth Fugate (‘20), Andrew Gallagher (‘17), Grant Herin (‘18), Tristan Hulse (‘18), Kati Matney (‘18), Bryan Besselman (‘20), Chris Kueck (‘20), James Carrino(‘19), Jonathon Peine (‘17), and Ian Deal (‘19). The Ratchet Rockers, as the alliance is named, have made one of the best robots in the state. They have recently won the St. Louis Regional Competition and will be continuing on to the worlds competition here in St. Louis.
For the competition the Ratchet Rockers’ robot has to shoot five inch wiffle balls into a basketball hoop with no backboard. Every three wiffle balls into the hoop, which is nine feet off the ground, earns the team one point. On average the team receives 40 points. Next, the robot has 30 seconds to climb six foot tall rope. “Our robot is 113 pounds so it has to go find this rope that is swinging and goes, latches on and climbs all the way up in 4 seconds,” said Matney(‘18).
The robotics team encourages anyone with an interest to show up. Any student willing to work hard is welcome to learn and be apart of this amazing team. The Ratchet Rockers are happy to celebrate their first win as a team.
