The Power of Awareness
Holt High School was proud to welcome the Wentzville Fire Department to their auditorium to start their drunk driving awareness campaign for juniors and seniors on Friday, April 7th. The drunk driving awareness campaign was initiated because of accidents due to drunk driving after Prom across the country.
The assembly started off with the Wentzville Fire Chief speaking about the amount of drunk driving accidents that the fire department is involved in and how many of those involve teenagers.
The assembly continued with a scenic engagement of how drunk driving incidents occur. Simon Osler (’18) portrayed the student what drank too much and then drove. Lydia Stewart (’18) portrayed the victim in the fatal accident killing her character.
“The message seemed more powerful, because it involved kids we knew,” said Lily Bancroft (’18).
The assembly did indeed feel powerful after a Wentzville police officer explained that the hardest part of his job is to tell people that their child had died in a drunk driving accident. The assembly included a scene that displayed the protocol each emergency unit follows.
This assembly reiterated the importance of not drinking and driving and impacted students to think twice before making bad choices.
