National Day of Silence
Today, April 21, is the Day of Silence. Many students around Holt High can be seen respecting this vow. Some students have even made slips that they wear around the whole day. This day is a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. Another point of this day is to raise awareness about the harassment, prejudice, and discrimination that the LGBTQ community faces. The community has faced many horrors just for being openly themselves. Events like the Orlando shooting on June second is a major reason that this day exists. It is a day to honor the people who have fought and those continuing to fight for the right to be themselves.
