Celebrating School Library Month

Katie Dinkins (’17) and Jessica Bautista (’19) concentrate on finishing a puzzle in the library during National Library Month.

Librarians all over the world are showing their spirit for School Library Month. Every April, school librarians are encouraged to plan and host  activities to help their school notice how much of an impact school library programs have on student learning .

Here at Holt, our librarians, Kim Mora(Library assistant), Kristie Locke(Librarian) and Kristine Harms have made efforts to show our school how great the library really is.

“We try to have fun, student-driven activities that highlight everything that the library has to offer. We are not just books,” says Assistant Librarian Kim Mora.

And that’s true. When people hear the word “library”, they automatically think about books and reading. But it is not just all about that.

Libraries can be a great place to relax with some friends or study for an upcoming test.

“I loved to see more students coming in and we believe they had fun. You don’t have to be a reader to enjoy the library,” Librarian Kristie Locke says.

Holt high school’s library has done and planned many things for School Library Month, like “Poetry stations”(April is also considered Poetry month) and “ The Shredded book contest”.

“What I loved most about the activities in the Library is that it creates a competitive atmosphere,” says Layla Wilmesher (‘19).

This national event has seriously made an impact on how students think. More people are now coming and actually enjoying the library as much as the librarians do.

We hope you and your friends come and see how amazing the library can really be!
