Girls Soccer Kicks it Up with SPENSA
The Holt girls soccer program recently went to Vienna High School to volunteer with the SPENSA program. SPENSA stands for Special Needs Soccer Association, and is a non profit organization based in the St.Louis area. The program is designed to bring the excitement and fun of playing soccer to players who traditionally have not had a place in the youth soccer program.
This program is open to special needs children of ages 5-21 and is free of charge. The program is privately funded through generous donations of individuals and corporations, as well as local select soccer groups.
Holt High School has been volunteering with SPENSA for many years now with both the girls and boys soccer teams and the students love it.
“ I loved going to SPENSA, it’s a great program and a great way to get the kids out and doing something,” said Sydney Balducci (‘19).
“ Its was lots of fun and i got to hangout with my friend and the kid i was partnered up with named Joel. It’s such an encouraging environment and they are always giving the players high fives and congratulating them,” said Abbey Kamenski (‘20)
“ The experience was nice and heartwarming, it was also fun to hangout with the special needs kids,” said Peyton Hoening (‘20).
If you are interested in volunteering with SPENSA the next session will be on Saturday May 13th at 9:00 a.m and is located at Mehlville High School. Please email [email protected] for more information about volunteering.
