parking lot stop sign

Driving is new to most high schoolers. Always be aware of your surroundings. Never speed through a parking lot . The law says 15 mph but a good speed to go is 10 mph because one never knows if someone or something may jump in front of the car.

Another thing to do is always use your turn signal even if you do not see anyone . “Your signal is not for the people you see but for the people you do not”. Parking lots are small and you never know if someone is next to you or in your blind spot or hidden around a car.

“Pay attention to your surroundings and be courteous” says Jordan Sanzottera (’18).

Another thing to always be aware of is stop signs. They are there for a reason so stop at them.

Holt High School has 3 new stop signs in the small parking lot near the entrance to the new road/roundabout. The district just added them the beginning of this year and are trying to enforce them. Here is why one should always stop at them. Even if one does not see anyone that does not mean a little kid is running out in front of one assume cars will stop at the stop sign . Always stop at stop signs.

Little kids are hard to see and often run out in front of cars. Always be aware of them in public parking lots like Wal-Mart and other shopping centers . If kids aren’t your biggest worry think what if it was a little fluffy puppy and you hit it and killed it . Stay off your phone when you drive and especially in parking lots before you run over a little cute puppy.
