Stain the World Pink
While October is the month of Halloween, full of oranges and blacks, it is also the month of a different color.
Pink.
Starting October 1, the United States celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the entire month, there is a health campaign to raise awareness to the cause and money for a cure.
Breast Cancer is one of the top-most causes of death via cancer in women. Statistics say that approximately one in eight women will contract breast cancer in this day and age.
Throughout the month of October, dozens, if not hundreds, of companies and nonprofit organizations host events and races of many kinds. From simple fundraiser,s like hosting a pink lemonade stand to huge fundraisers like the Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race for the Cure, everyone can find ways to donate during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All funds gathered are with a promise to go towards research for a cure.
People will show their support in many ways for the cause. Most of the time it is shown through the pink breast cancer ribbon, being pinned and painted on multiple things.
Even the students of Holt High School join together to show their support. On Friday October 13, during the football game band members donned pink plumes, while dancers and cheerleaders sported pink bows and poms.
There’s still time to show your support. Wear pink the rest of this month!
Breast Cancer is a serious problem, and one that deserves our support. People should honor those who have gone through such a trying time, and do whatever they can. So this year, make sure to show support and help out when the time comes.
