A debate has sprung up in Mrs. Hantack’s Pre-AP English 2 classes, but it is not about books. It is about the presidency (Not the one in the Whitehouse).

Megan Stutsman (‘20) and Caleb Cowan (‘20) got in an argument in the middle of their English class, when Mrs. Hantack suggested they compete for something to see who was better. After some thought, they decided that running for “English Class President” would be the perfect opportunity to settle their score.

Each candidate gave a speech about why they should be English president, such as ‘Why is English important?’ “English is important because it’s the most applicable of the subjects. You cannot do science or math or social studies unless you understand how to read and write,” says Megan Stutsman (‘20).

“Jobs will hire people who speak proper over people who speak ghetto,” says Caleb Cowan (‘20). After their debate opinions are already forming on who they are planning on voting for.

“I’m voting for Caleb,” says Kelby Robinson (‘20).

“I’m voting for Megan,” says Paul Tyson (‘20).

“Im voting for Caleb,” says Owen Stephans (‘20).

“I’m voting for Megan.” says Lizzy Crews (‘20).

If you are wondering what the English Class President does, you are not alone. One particular student in Mrs. Hantack’s fourth hour, Cael Nolan (‘20), raised his hand and asked the candidates two times what the position was for. Both times he got a vague answer of “Bragging rights” from both candidates. Typical politics.

While this election is not quite as heated as the Donald Trump (‘64) and Hillary Clinton (‘65) debates, the outcome of this debate will still be very fun to find out.
