Missouri Governor Eric Greitens Faces Felony Charges

Missouri governor Eric Greitens has been indicted on a felony charge of invasion of privacy as of last week. He stands accused of taking nude or partially nude photographs of a woman without her knowledge or consent during an extramarital affair with the woman. He is accused of not only taking the scandalous photo without the woman’s consent but also uploading it to a computer and using it to blackmail the woman to stay silent about their affair.

A judge has set Greitens’ court date for May 14. There was a debate as to whether this was too fast or not fast enough. The governor’s representative argued that the right to speedy trial is especially important for someone who has this much responsibility to the state while the prosecution argued that they also have the right to ample time in order to gather the necessary parts of their case. The judge ultimately decided on the mid May date for the trial.

Greitens denies the claims of invasion of privacy though he has admitted publicly to having the affair. The governor has since talked about how the affair was a “personal mistake” from before his time in office, but that there was never any illegal activity involved in the affair.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
