Boom!!! Goes the Dynamite

Matthew Bennett (’20) cuts up the field in attempt to score.

It was a night of firsts for Holt Football, on Friday, August 24th. It was the first game of the season, first home game, the first shutout, and most importantly, the first win. The Holt Indians met the Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs on the gridiron for 48 minutes of play and did not let up until the final whistle.

Cole Mueller (’19) did not disappoint in his senior year debut with an immediate touchdown on the opening kickoff. After Mueller’s initial success, he managed to wind up in the end zone another five times before the game was over, an almost unheard show of dominance by a single athlete. Starting the season off with a six touchdown game has made the entirety of Holt excited to see what else Cole Mueller will achieve this season.

Another one of Holt’s players had his own debut game, but it was not a senior. Freshmen Cooper Brown (’22) led Holt’s offense and was a great contribution to the 40 point effort. Brown was 4/4 with 64 yards……….

Holt’s defense showed up big as well Friday night by allowing zero points. Elijah Steward came off the edge and recorded a sack early in the first half. Colin Weisner (’20) made a extremely well read play and had an interception in the second half.

With impressive performances on both sides of the ball, Holt Football should have enough momentum to perform similarly in their next home game against the Pattonvile Pirates, on August 31.
