Immigrants Rush Border at San Diego
On September 26, a group of Migrants on the Mexican side of the border attempted to rush the border. This caused the US border agents at the San Ysidro Crossing, the largest border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego, to close the border and fire tear gas at the migrants in order to push them back.
The agents at the border said on their twitter that the migrants were throwing objects at the agents, and that some of them managed to hit the agents, so to ensure the safety of border security they deployed tear gas to disperse the crowds who were overwhelming the border patrol agents.
First starting as peaceful demonstration that marched from Benito Juárez Sports Complex, the temporary staying place of the migrants, that then marched it’s way to the towards the border where they then broke off into multiple groups. Some attempted to cross through San Ysidro, but after they were denied other began to cross by going to either side of the crossing.
The mayor of the Mexican city of Tijuana, Juan Manuel Gastélum Buenrostro, has said that he will not allow the migrants actions to affect his citizens relationship with the U.S. as many of the citizens of Tijuana travel to and from the U.S. for work, school, and leisure. Buenrostro has also urged the national government of Mexico to do more in funding the migrants, citing it as a humanitarian crisis.
