2019 Academy Award Preview
The Oscars will be played on Thursday, February 24 on ABC at 7:00 pm Eastern time. With many great movies and individual performances, and a multitude of awards, here is a list of the nominees for categories that even the casual movie fan will care about.
Most Nominations: Even without any winners being announced yet there are already some pictures dominating the scene simply with nominations. The Favourite and Roma both have ten nominations, followed by A Star is Born and Vice who each managed to reel in eight nominations. Then with 7, 6 and 5 Oscar nods are Black Panther, BlacKkKlansmen and Bohemian Rhapsody respectively.
Best Picture: BlacKkKlansmen, Black Panther, Roma, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, The Favourite, Green Book and Vice.
Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron who directed Roma, Yorgos Lanthimos who directed The Favourite, Spike Lee who directed BlacKkKlansmen, Adam McKay who directed Vice and lastly Pawel Pawlikowski who directed Cold War, and is the only nominee for best director whose movies is not nominated for best picture.
Best Actress: Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Glenn Close (The Wife), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) and Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?).
Best Actor:Christian Bale (Vice), Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Viggo Mortensen (Green Book).
While these are usually the awards with the most star power and name recognition, there is an entire other world of potential winners in categories like Best Animated Picture, Best Documentary feature and even more technical, obscure awards for actions like editing and sound mixing.
