Team Trees

November 15, 2019

On October 25, MrBeast uploaded a video that both announced and kickstarted a movement that swept the world. The movement is known as Team Trees, and the goal is to raise $20 million dollars for the sole purpose of planting trees around the world. MrBeast is allying himself with the Arbor Day Foundation to help with organizing the movement. They have said that they will plant 20 million trees by the end of 2020, starting with planting in January 2020.

The movement has received mainstream attention and many donations from celebrities, including Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, and Susan Wojcicki, CEO of Youtube. The organization made big news when Elon Musk donated one million dollars after much urging from fans across the internet. Yet, over 69% of the 15.2 million is from donations below 20 thousand. The platform that has supported the movement the most is YouTube. TeamTrees started on the platform and it quickly found a home, as dozens if not hundreds or even thousands of YouTubers took to the rallying cry. Along with this, many companies, including YouTube, agreed to donate, many offering 1 million.

The organization is currently at $15,394,162 and has over a month left until its deadline. Both MrBeast and the Arbor day have repeated that this movement is based on a $1=1 tree principle. The trees are said to be planted in areas of high need and will be taken care of after the planting by the Arbor Day Foundation.

MrBeast is a YouTuber who recently has been positing charity or gift videos, whether its to friends, smaller channels, and even random people. MrBeast first got the idea by Reddit and other fans on social media who bombarded him with requests to plant 20 million trees. He reached out to the Arbor Day Foundation and they started to collaborate on the idea.

If you or anyone else is interested in donating, remember $1=1 Tree. https://teamtrees.org/
