Is Anybody Out There?
A topic that seems to constantly be debated is aliens and whether or not they exist. Many people doubt their existence, while many are firm believers that humans cannot be the only life forms out there because it seems highly unlikely. It seems like everyone has their own stance on the subject and is resolute in their decision.
A survey of 59 students was conducted here at Holt High School and about 75 percent said that they actually do believe that aliens exist, while 25 percent said that they do not believe that aliens exist. Since a majority of the students surveyed claim to believe in aliens, this can be very telling for how the rest of the world views the subject.
For those who do believe in aliens, they feel that it is simply impossible for it to only be humans that exist in the entire universe. “It is impossible to believe that, in this huge universe, there is no other life form than this planet. Everybody says that we live on the only planet with life form because we are lined up perfectly with the sun, but that doesn’t mean other life forms can’t survive on a different planet,” Ruth Fugate (‘20) said.
Even though there are not as many people who do not believe in aliens as there are people who do actually believe in aliens, the non-believers can also have some fairly strong opinions on the topic and are united in this opinion.“I’ve just never seen a reason to believe in them,” Emilie Clark (‘22) said.
Although no one truly knows if aliens exist for sure, there is no saying that we will never find out. Humans discovering aliens may be a few days away, years away, centuries away, or might never even happen. No one will ever truly know until the day comes.
