Birthdays During Quarantine
During this time, everyone everywhere has most likely experienced some sort of inconvenience due to the latest concerns with the spread of COVID-19. Class of 2020 has lost their last few months of high school, people have lost their jobs, but another group is people who are affected are those who have birthdays during this time. It is a minor inconvenience compared to what others are experiencing, but many people are still a bit upset by it.
For many people, myself included, their birthday falls during the quarantine and they cannot celebrate their birthday how they might have originally liked.
“My birthdays on April sixth and it really sucks that I can’t see my friends or do anything outside of my house with my mom and my three siblings. This is also the first year in my entire life that I haven’t seen my grandparents on my birthday,” Hanna Flacke (‘22) said.
Many are empathetic for those who do have birthdays because they feel like those people are missing out.
“I feel kind of sad for them. They’re not able to celebrate this year and for some it’s a big milestone in their life, like their 16th or 18th birthday,” Lilly Swafford (‘21) said.
Although this is incredibly inconvenient and is probably disappointing many people, there are still some fun ways to celebrate their birthday from their own home and still have a lot of fun.
“Driving past their house & dropping off gifts or doing anything outdoors is a good idea. As long as everyone is keeping a bit of distance, going outside during good weather is the best plan.”Madison Hunn (‘20) said.
It may be pretty disappointing, but there are people out there going through a lot worse because of the coronavirus. By staying home and making tiny sacrifices, there is a huge potential that people are saving lives, which is extremely important. So now matter how inconvenient it may seem, stay home.
