Should Be Missouri Be Opening Back Up?

Restaurants, like Sugar Fire, have been told they can open their doors.

As of May fourth, many businesses in Missouri were allowed to open back up. There is no limit on how many people can gather in a place at one time. Things just relatively went back to normal, although the governor has said to continue to social distance. However, should Missouri actually be opening back up again?

Opinions are very split on the matter. Lots of people feel that opening up should not have happened so soon because the cases of COVID-19 are still spreading fairly rapidly. Thankfully, the virus is not spreading as fast as it was late March, but it is still progressing and people’s lives are still at stake.

Those that oppose the lockdown and want it to be lifted so that businesses can open up and the economy can get moving again say that the curve has finally been flattened, so there is no need to continue to stay locked away all day long. Many of those who oppose the lockdown also claim that the government should not be controlling and quarantining those who are healthy, rather those who are actually sick and infected so that it does not spread to others. They feel that is really the only effective way to slow the spread of the virus because people have to leave their houses eventually.

Despite people’s opinions of the matter, the state has still opened up and there is nothing stopping people from going out anymore. It is still extremely important to take any necessary precautions and continue social distance so that the spread of the virus is slowed and less people are infected. The curve needs to be flattened to take the stress off of hospital workers so that they can prioritize patients much better and that can only happen if people take the necessary precautions.
