High School in 2020
The school year of 2020-21 is greatly different from previous years. Students are now required to masks at most times, social distancing is encouraged, and extended passing time. Wentzville students were given the option to go to school in person or complete classes online. For the students who choose in person, they were broken up into two groups, AA and BB. Group AA are students whose last names fall in the first half of the alphabet, while BB is the last half. How are the two student groups’ school experiences differ from each other?
AA Students physically go to school on Monday and Tuesday. But, on Thursday and Friday complete virtual learning assignments based on Monday and Tuesday’s instruction. Meanwhile, BB Students do the opposite, attending school on Thursday and Friday, but assigned virtual assignments on Monday and Tuesday. Without prior instruction when working on their virtual assignments, BB Students are left to mostly their own devices when it comes to completing their assignments until they go to school on Thursdays. While AA Students get the opportunity to ask questions and receive help on the first day they receive the assignments. Many students have been complaining about the newfound mask requirement, finding it both uncomfortable and annoying.
Currently, it is too soon to tell if AA Students or BB Students are experiencing any major differences in their school week. However, it has been rumored that there are more AA Students than BB Students. With teachers now sanitizing
desks after each class, longer passing periods, split school, added lunch period, and other safety precautions changing the way students experienced Holt High School from this year to last year.
