If you think of ESPN or Sportscenter, there’s often an image that comes into your head. Male athletes playing football, basketball, or baseball is often the center of attention. Maybe there will be some NHL or WWE.

But why are these channels always praising male sports? What about our female sports? The company “Sporting Chic” is trying to open up awareness about female sports.

“Very rarely are female sports highlighted on ESPN… She [Kristie Mewis] had this idea to create something that would be fun and educational for female athletes to read,” says Sam Mewis of Sporting Chic.

Sporting Chic is a lifestyle blog run by pro soccer players Sam Mewis, Kristie Mewis, and Stephanie Mccaffrey. Each of them play for a National Women’s Soccer League and are current or former full national team players.

Sporting Chic is creating a place for all female athletes to come together.

“Our goal is to create a community for female athletes to share their stories and experiences, learn from one another, and grow female sports… We hope to spread awareness about female sports teams that might need more funding or fans,” Sam Mewis states.

The blog is made up of three main parts; the features (ran by Sam Mewis), fashion (ran by Kristie Mewis), and laughs (by Stephanie McCaffrey). The three different personalities make for an interesting website.

Sporting Chic shows a different side to female athletes. Kristie’s fashion blog, for instance, show that you can be a beauty on the streets and a beast in your cleats still.

“It [Sporting Chic] means that you can have dirt under your fingernails even if they’re freshly manicured,” said Sam.

So to all of the female athletes out there, whether you’re reading this after your workout or after getting your nails done, Sporting Chic is the place for you.
