This school year, the FACS department gained three new classes, one of which is fashion design and merchandising.

Fashion design and merchandising is the promotion of apparel sales and the process of picking what is in fashion and what isn’t,” said Abrielle Biggs (‘18).

One of their projects they did was put together a fall fashion board, which predicts the hottest fashion styles this fall.

Some of the fall fashion trends the class predicted were silhouettes, print patterns, ruffles, jumpers, and supersized sleeves.

To predict the upcoming trends they “look at past years and see what the majority of people have gone towards and then pair those items up with similar versions that are ‘newer’,” said Sara Mclaren (‘19).

In fashion merchandising, there is a bunch of activities to immerse yourself in the fashion design and merchandising world.

Just one of their activities they did to experience fashion merchandising was making an inspiration journal. “I got to go out to places like downtown St. Charles and look at all the cute boutiques and their styles. I loved taking pictures of clothes that I liked,” said Sara.

The FACS department is excited about their new classes and what they bring to Holt.
