What is PLTW Anyway?

Readying their rockets, Max Worth (’18) and Teacher, Ms. Gregory, discuss a plan of action.

A lot of students ask this question and teacher, Ms. Gregory has the answer. PLTW stands for Project Lead the Way.

“PLTW is a national program that is made to expose students to careers in engineering, biomedical science, and computer science before they go to college,” explained Gregory.

These weighted classes help prepare high school students for the experience they need in college courses and in their future career.

Madyson Morgan (‘19) said, “I want to be a doctor and this teaches me everything about the human body and how it works together and if anything goes wrong, how you can fix that. It shows how you can help people get better.”

These courses are very hands on. For example, the engineering course had a blast shooting off rockets outside.

In the capstone engineering class, seniors are able to spend all year creating their own product. The PBS course has their students put themselves in the shoes of crime scene investigators.

“We have a skeleton and we put in it’s organs and all of it’s nerves and label it’s bones and in pbs we have a fake person named Anna that died and we have to figure out how she died,” states Madyson Morgan (‘19).

Overall, these PLTW classes are engaging.

“We would love more students to take PLTW classes,” comments Ms. Gregory.

Be sure to enroll in PLTW next year!
