Training for Techne

Professional soccer player for FC Kansas City, Yael Averbuch, launched an app last sunday focusing on technique for soccer players.

“The app is basically your individual personal trainer. It takes you through a 30- minute technical session that you can do as many times as you want and there’s a new session available each week,” says Yael.

The app is called Techne. Techne is a Greek term, meaning craftsmanship or art. That’s exactly what all soccer players who want to go far with the sport. To be artful with the ball, or mastering the ball, is what this Techne app is getting you to accomplish.

What exactly does mastery of the ball mean? Averbuch has the answer.

“There is no limit to how you can get with the ball at your feet. To be able to use the ball to execute your vision on the field is one of the greatest feelings and is what makes the game so fun. To become a master of the ball is a never ending process if findings ways to make it work and improve upon skills with both feet.”

Soccer is a sport that has a lot of uncontrollable things happen, from mysterious penalty kicks to that coach who plays favorites, a lot of uncertainty is in the sport. Techne is getting you to take charge of the things you can control.

“For me, the most exciting part of the game is feeling responsible for the things I can control and feeling myself getting better at them,” Averbuch states.

Techne is very competitive and the participants train an insane amount of hours just to get to the top of the leaderboard. It’s connecting players who are serious about their sport in ways that have never been done before.

In fact, professional players like Heather O’Reilly, Becky Sauerbrunn, Becca Moros, and a male pro player from Germany are using it. More players from the NWSL are joining and the app is continually expanding.

Overall, the app is really just trying to get you out there training on your technical footwork.

“I want to empower players to feel that they are in control of getting better and accomplishing goals that they set for themselves,” claims Averbuch.
