Thanksgiving vs Christmas

Lately, there has been plenty of discussion/arguments about when people should start decorating and preparing for Christmas. Usually, the day after Halloween is when radio stations play “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. Personally, I do not believe in skipping a holiday centered around food, but everyone has different opinions.

“Why would anyone skip a holiday that encourages you to eat more than you are supposed to? Christmas can wait,” said Alec Sexton (’17).

“As much as I look forward to Christmas, you just can’t skip over Thanksgiving,” said Talia Cornejo (’19).

“Both holidays are equally important because you can spend time with family,” said Gavin Miller (’17).

Thanksgiving is not just about how many bread rolls you can eat before pumpkin pie, it is also about being thankful for friends, family and more. So make sure you sit down with your family and let them know how much you appreciate them.

Most people that defended Thanksgiving agreed that it was a great holiday because of the food. People that skipped Thanksgiving agreed that presents are the best. The one thing that makes the two holidays important is spending quality time with family.

Even though you may be ready to break out your tree and throw tinsel everywhere, make sure you spend time with your family during this important holiday and remember all of the wonderful things you are thankful for!
