Lillian Bancroft (’18) and her boyfriend always look for unique ideas for date night.

In spirit of Valentine’s Day, I have compiled a list of a date you and your significant other can go on once a month, until the next Valentine’s Day. Majority of students at Holt believe that the crossroads of the nation is the most boring place on Earth. Prepare yourself for some exposure, because we have some seriously interesting things to do in our little corner of the world.

For the Adventurous Souls

For this priceless date all you need is a coin, some good music and a vehicle. Heads is left and tails is right, every stop light you flip the coin and take the corresponding turn. Drive as long as you can and see where it takes you! Document the memories by taking pictures at every stop.

Takin’ a Walk

There is one thing great about Missouri and that is the amazing sunsets, our weather is constantly changing so this could be applicable any time of the year. Starting with the closest to Wentzville and then outwards, here is a list of amazing places I’ve been hiking. Indian Camp Creek, Quail Ridge, Katy Trail, Klondike, Castlewood, and Elephant Rocks. Some are a farther drive than others but there is always adventure somewhere!

Drive In Movie

Yes, it says drive in movie. Skyview Drive-In located in Belleville, Illinois is the perfect calling for ones who love nostalgia. Skyview was built in 1949 and plays Hollywood Hits every friday and saturday night.

Farmer’s Market/ Flea Market

In our not so small town of the ville we host a flea market at the Wentzville Community Club on sunday mornings opening at 6. In Lake St. Louis there is a farmers market hosted in the back of The Meadows Mall. This is a fantastic date for adventurous morning people. You never know what you will find and the adventure truly awaits.

A Day In The City

St. Louis is one of the best cities in the country and there is an extensive list of things to do. Choose one or few but here are my favorite places to visit when I take a trip downtown. Botanical Gardens, St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Zoo, Science Center, Art Hill, Delmar Loop and the City Museum. Some of these places are free of tuition and others are a minimal amount. Checking opening hours and entry fees is recommended before going.

For the Outdoorsy Adventures

In just a few days, the Asian Carp Removal Project will be over and Creve Coeur Lake will open back up for citizens to rent paddle boards, paddle boats, and kayaks. This is the perfect summer activity for the ones who love outdoors.

Stargazing/Cloud Watching & Picnic

This date costs no money and is quite relaxing. Whether your a night owl or a daydreamer, grabbing a blanket and a picnic basket is the best form of therapy. This can be done at any local park such as rotary or quail ridge, or even in a backyard. This is a good way to spend time together, and get to know each other.

Diners, Drive-ins & Dives- Wentzville Style

Depending on what your palette desires, there is quite the number of diners in our small corner of the nation. This short list of nostalgic places will take you way back. Pete’s drive-in, Waffle House, Ellbees General Store or Rikerly’s Place.

Making Something Out Of Nothing- Thrifting

There is always an adventure when thrifting, there’s a story behind everything. One of my favorite activities is to find a few simple hoodies and cut them, or make them the way I want to wear. It’s cheap and fun to get creative and spend time with someone. You can look up your local thrift store or resale shop, there is plenty in our area.

Tackle a DIY Project

Tackling a DIY project is easily one of the most fun ways to pass time. Perfect for a nice sunny day, or maybe a cold rainy day inside, finding a project and going for it is always fun. Going to look at Michael’s you could find something or just look online and use stuff from your house. There is plenty of things from your household that you could tackle.

Bowling/ Lazer Tag

Oldie but goodie, going bowling is one of the most classic and simple ways to get to know someone. Newer bowling alleys have laser tag, which is a good option for the energetic couples. There is plenty of lanes in the O’Fallon area such as Frontier Lanes, Ofallon Bowl, and Bowlero.

Grind Time

Lastly, for the very energetic couples there is the “gym date.” With the many fitness institutions in our small corner of the world, you could go on a gym date. See what your S.O. is really made of, and looks like.
