Books, whether you love them or absolutely despise them, you cannot deny the fact that they are some of the most impactful forms of entertainment for teens today. Many book series have accumulated thousands upon thousands of diehard fans, and some have even become an iconic part of today’s pop culture. Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, The Hunger Games, and the Divergent trilogy, are just some books that have influenced the media.

The reason these books have become so popular are because of the people who love them so much, students. There are often tons of debates about  which one of these so called cult classics are superior. Though it is nearly impossible to compare the quality of the writing in these books, it is impossible to ignore that some are much more popular than others.

From a survey of about 88 students, 34 percent of people said that Harry Potter was their favorite book series. 16 percent of people prefered the Percy Jackson series, 13 percent Divergent, and six percent Lord of the Rings. “Harry Potter is superior, obviously” said Hana Scheuerman (‘21).

Of course these are not the only popular book series that people like, lots of students said that they liked the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, The Lunar chronicles, and even Little house on a Prairie. “I like the selection series because of the unique dystopian setting” said Isabella Shelton (‘21). “I loved the Warriors when I was little.” said Sierra Romanski (‘21).

Not every popular book is in a series, “I really like Booked by Kwame Alexander” said Conner Egiman (‘21). There were even some people who could not just pick one book or series, “Well, most of these have at least some sort of series, but I also like Renegades by Marissa Meyer, Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas, and Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard,“ said Aspen Deslongchamps (‘22).

Though technology has been rapidly developing over time, books have still continue to be loved and valued by students and adults. There is a numerous amount of people who want to keep the legacy of books alive. Reading is a vital part of functioning in today’s society and interacting with the world around you. You do not have like these popular books, in fact you may even hate some of these series, these are just some of the most influential and impactful ones that have “changed the game” for other books in their gerne.
