The Spanish Club is working on an activity that involves creativity and hard work. They have been working very hard this year and have been learning a lot of new lessons on Spanish culture. “I enjoy being in this club because of the positive atmosphere. I think it is very fun for someone who is interested in Spanish and different activities that we have done,” Isabel Landuyt (’21) said.

Many of us have different interests in school. Whether its academic or playing sports for a specific team. But what about the many clubs offered at our school? There are many organizations that interests many students and can even help others out as well. Some students join clubs for any interest they might have over something they like do as a hobby or even for their career paths after they graduate high school. But do they get as much attention than the other activities?

A survey was conducted and available for all students to take during their academic intervention study halls. The students were able to explain which clubs they were associated with and why they think they could interest many students.

After the students had responded, 78.6 percent answered yes and 21.4 percent answered no.

According to the survey, the Drama club is the most popular with 25.9 percent responses. DECA, Student Council, and Robotics came in second place with the same number of 11.1 percent. Many of the students that took part in the survey explained which clubs they take part in school everyday.

According to one student, they responded which club they were in and even explained about creating a new club for our school.

“I am in Audacious Authors and I am making my own club called the Martial Arts Club,” Aspen Deslongchamps (’22) said.

As of what the student had said, there could be a new club being created at our school. As the students were taking the survey, they were asked if clubs are a big interest in students as of today, especially in high school.

“Yes, because it helps them feel like they belong to a group and have a certain function within that group,” one student said.

However, some students have explained how the interest of clubs has decreased because of other interests many students may have during high school.

“Some are, most of the clubs I am in are suffering in membership. Thespians and Reading Club are doing fine but the others are suffering because no one is interested. A lot of things do not capture the interest in many, unfortunately the clubs I am in are like that,” said another student.

In high school, many students’ interests may vary because of what their minds are up to or they have had that special interest since a young age. Sports and other activities that involve competition are very popular as of today. But, it seems that the interest of clubs are becoming less popular. There are clubs at our school that are very popular and receive a lot attention from students, but the other clubs can be sometimes left out. We could find ways to interest students in doing something they have a passion for and be able to meet new people.
