Amelia Truong (’21) advances to state in the Poetry Out Loud competition.

Amelia Troung (’21) won regionals for poetry out loud!

Since she won regionals, she will head onto state on March 12th in Jefferson city!

Poetry out loud is a poetry competition consisting of contestants choosing three poems to recite, memorizing it completely, then performing it out loud in front of a span of several judges. The judges during the competition judge each of the competitors on their presence, accuracy, and their ability to memorize the poem of their choice and their ability to recite it.

Amelia described how she was feeling as confident.

“I wasn’t very nervous, I knew what to expect,” Truong said.

Amelia knew what to expect because last year she ended up making it to state in the poetry out loud competition!

This year the competition was held at the Foundry art center in St. Charles. There were only two other people with her during the competition, so when she won, she stated that she wasn’t very surprised due to the fact that it was either her or her other competitors that could have won.

If you see Amelia, make sure to congratulate her and wish her luck for her state competition! Good Job Amelia!
