Through this stay-at-home order, many people seem to be experiencing boredom like never before. Many sports and hobbies have been shut down, such as pro sports, school sports, band, choir, and outside of school activities; such as dance classes, martial arts classes, gymnastic classes, and many more. Because of this, many people have turned to something new for entertainment.

In quarantine, learning a safe new hobby can be one of the best things to do. Learning a new skill requires practice and time (which is something we do not lack when forced to stay at home). Doing or learning a new hobby can prevent one from getting depressed or anxious during this time.

“I started learning how to skateboard and play guitar,” Samantha Fairbridge (‘22) said. She also stated that this had helped to reduce her anxiety.

Learning new hobbies that are especially active is one of the best things someone can do at this time. In addition to this, many students are working on having a “Quarantine Glow-Up”. This means that they want to improve how they look and change their attitude for the better. This includes working out, eating healthy, cutting or dying their hair, and buying clothes that make them feel confident.

“… I’m doing more exercise as well as working on my flexibility.” Alexis Donato (‘21) said.

If someone is not taking healthy steps to improve this time while in quarantine, I would advise them to get off the couch, put on some clothes that aren’t pajamas, and go outside for a walk. Play with the dog, draw with chalk, or just sit and get some sunlight.

These things will help you stay happy and healthy while in quarantine, and help you to “Glow-Up” before school starts again. Remember, this too shall pass, and soon we will be able to see our friends and loved ones again. Make the best out of quarantine, and make sure to get some exercise!
