The whole cast of the Parks and Rec crew came back for the Parks and Rec special.

With all of us being stuck inside, we have been watching a lot of TV. New shows like Tiger King, Midnight Gospel, and Never Have I Ever have kept many of us busy. But maybe you’re not into any of these shows and like a good amount of people, you’re rewatching old shows like The Office, Friends, Community, or Breaking Bad. But there is one big show that a lot of people are rewatching which is; Parks and Recreation. Now if you are not familiar with the show, it is in the same spectrum as The Office , but takes place in a park and recreation department where a whole crazy cast of people like Amy Poehler, Azia Ansari, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, and many more are trying to make a park.

The show was a huge hit, starting in 2009 and going all the way to 2015, with a total of seven seasons. Now, it may seem like a fun show to watch. But why talk about it now?

Well, with the recent pandemic, it has, of course, been really hard for everyone, so the cast and producers of the show decided to have the show come back in a special reunion. But this reunion was not for nothing, it was actually a live charity special in which all proceeds  went to the Feeding America COVID-19 Response Fund. The charity was to help people who are facing a food shortage or hunger and help out the many food banks during this time.  But, maybe one of the best parts of it was that State Farm and Subaru, the sponsors, were both donating 150,000 dollars. To even make it better, NBC and the cast donated money too, which made their total to 500,000 dollars before the special even started.

But, if you think 500,000 dollars is a lot, that was nothing compared to the 2.8 million dollars they raised with people donating throughout the show. Not only was the amount of money amazing, but the special itself was jammed packed with people and references from the show. The special picks up where the show left off but the characters  are in quarantine because not even a COVID-19 can be stopped in a show. But throughout the special, each of the characters calls one another through a parody of the app, Zoom. A lot of great moments happen throughout the special like Andy being stuck in the shed, random commercials with some of the side characters, and a running joke about no one wanting to call Gary. Then best for last, the musical number at the end with everyone singing. If you want to watch the special, the whole thing is free on youtube now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vl_oUMyGYU  Even though times are hard, there is always something to help cheer us up, like this wonderful special. Also, who knows, maybe we will get lucky and see an Office special too. But all in all, the one time special shows just how well people can come together during these odd times.
