Making Waves

The pungent scent of chlorine, the routine sound of splashing and the familiar way the fluorescent lights shimmer off the pool water… But more than that, the determination set deep in every member of the boys swim team.

When it comes to swimming, stamina is key. If a swimmer doesn’t have stamina, they won’t be able to get that far in the sport. “For stamina, it’s really just practice,” Chris Daniels (‘26) said. “That’s all you really can do. You don’t want to (overexert) yourself…”

Alex Harms (’26)

Levi Harris (‘28) said he trains every day to build stamina. “It’s something that you just have to do so much,” Harris said. “Mainly long-distance swimming or sprints.”

Along with stamina, the rigorous amount of training needed to be a swimmer is tougher than many people perceive it to be. “Obviously, a coach helps you,” Daniels said, “but you also need to put more discipline (into it).”

Chase Phillips (’27)

Overall, swimming is a tiring yet heavily rewarding sport. Practice might not make perfect, but practice can make an amazing swimmer and a strong team.
