Being selected for a good scholarship is a big goal for any student, and not just anyone can get one. Holt senior Cora Sverdrup (20) however was just recently selected as the District nominee for the John T. Belcher scholarship, and can now apply for a scholarship.
The John T. Belcher scholarship was created in memory of Mr. Belcher, who played an important part in developing better financial systems for Missouri school districts.
Now that Sverdrup has been selected as the district nominee, she has the opportunity to apply for a $1000 scholarship. Applicants for the scholarship are judged on their academic performance, extracurricular performance, and the quality of an essay.
Sverdrup is ranked seventh in her class, scored a 32 on the ACT, and has a 4.38 GPA. She is in three advanced placement courses and is the historian of National Honor Society. She also is a Link Crew leader, a four year varsity tennis athlete, two year varsity track athlete, and on the Scholar Bowl team. She is a section leader and band president of Holt marching and jazz bands, playing the tenor saxophone.
Cora Sverdrup has worked hard at what she wants to achieve, and it seems that it is paying off. She hopes to study cognitive science at a four year university after she graduates.
